Salt Lake City, Utah, November 4-7, 2009

USCID (U.S. Committee on Irrigation and Drainage) is a nonprofit professional society, organized in 1952, whose multi-disciplinary membership shares an interest in the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of irrigation, drainage and flood control works; agricultural economics; water law; and environmental and social issues affecting irrigated agriculture. Members are associated with consulting firms; local, state and federal government agencies; colleges and universities; irrigation districts and other water user organizations; irrigation equipment manufacturers and construction contractors; and environmental organizations.

USCID is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, elected by USCID Members. The Board meets twice annually to review USCID activities and set policies. USCID is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) scientific and educational organization.

USCID is the United States member of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), an international organization of more than 70 countries founded in 1950. ICID is a non-governmental organization devoted to the development of the science and technique of irrigation engineering.

As an ICID National Committee, USCID:

  • Reviews and selects U.S. papers for the ICID Congresses and the Irrigation and Drainage, the Journal of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage
  • Collects and disseminates information on irrigation, drainage and flood control, including ICID publications
  • Provides representatives to and information for ICID work groups

In addition, USCID:

  • Publishes the USCID Newsletter to keep members informed of the latest irrigation, drainage and flood control developments
  • Organizes standing and working committees to accomplish the work of USCID, to address important technical issues, and to support related ICID work groups
  • Has a Student Program, including a scholarship awarded annually to a university student enrolled in a water resources related program
  • Cooperates with other professional societies to exchange technical information of mutual interest
