Did You Know...
...that, periodically, an international kayaking competition is held on the Savage River, a tributary of the Potomac River in Maryland. This major event is held during the summer, when the flows are at their lowest. Therefore, its sponsors make arrangements with the Corps of Engineers to provide flow augmentation from its Savage River Flood Control Dam. Without the existence of the Savage River Dam, this world-famous event could not take place, particularly during the summer.
